As our senior aesthetician, I have performed hundreds of HydraFacials — and I still find it genuinely exciting every time. Not because it is glamorous (it is not; the extraction phase is rather satisfying in a completely unglamorous way), but because the results are so reliably, immediately visible. Patients sit up, look in the mirror, and say the same thing every time: "Oh. Wow."

It is the most requested treatment at DermaMedica, and I want to explain exactly why — what it does, who it is for, and why nothing else quite replicates it.

What HydraFacial Actually Does

The HydraFacial is a patented, multi-step treatment that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, and antioxidant protection in a single session. Unlike many facials that do one of these things well, HydraFacial does all of them — in a specific sequence that maximises the benefit of each stage.

The device uses a unique vortex suction tip that simultaneously extracts impurities and delivers serums deep into the pores. The result is skin that has been genuinely cleaned out and simultaneously flooded with nourishing actives — not one or the other.

The Four Steps,
Explained

01

Cleanse & Peel

A gentle resurfacing solution loosens dead skin cells and debris. Think of this as preparing the canvas — removing the surface layer that dulls the skin and blocks subsequent steps from penetrating effectively.

02

Extract & Hydrate

The vortex extraction tip dislodges and removes blackheads, excess sebum, and congestion from the pores — all painlessly. Simultaneously, a blend of salicylic acid and botanical extracts is delivered to clear and calm. This is the step patients are most curious about (and the extraction tip always gets a reaction).

03

Fuse & Protect

A cocktail of antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid is infused into the newly cleared skin. With the pores open and the surface layer refreshed, these actives penetrate far more effectively than they would through a topical product applied at home.

04

Booster (Optional)

At DermaMedica we offer tailored boosters — including growth factors for anti-ageing, brightenMD for pigmentation, and CTGF for skin firming — that can be selected based on your specific skin concerns. This is where HydraFacial moves from a great all-round treatment to a genuinely targeted one.

Who Is It For?

Almost everyone. This is not hyperbole — the HydraFacial is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, because the exfoliation is non-abrasive and the serum blends are carefully pH-balanced. The only contraindications are active rosacea flare-ups, sunburned skin, or open wounds.

"I have given HydraFacials to teenagers with congested skin and clients in their seventies wanting to restore radiance. The results look different, but the transformation is always there."

— Jodie Rettalick, Senior Aesthetician

Particularly Good For

Congested or blemish-prone skin benefits enormously from the extraction phase. Dehydrated skin responds instantly to the hyaluronic acid infusion. Dull or uneven-toned skin gets an immediate boost from the exfoliation and antioxidant delivery. Fine lines appear softened within hours as the skin plumps with hydration.

How Often Should You Have It?

For maintenance and general skin health, once a month is ideal — this aligns with the skin's natural cell turnover cycle. For a specific event, a single treatment 3–5 days before gives the best result (the initial post-treatment flush settles within 24 hours).

We also offer our Executive HydraFacial, which extends the session to include LED light therapy, lymphatic drainage, and an extended booster infusion — ideal for patients who want to treat multiple concerns in one visit.

If you have never had a HydraFacial, I genuinely think you will be delighted. It is one of those treatments where the experience is relaxing, the results are immediate, and there is nothing to hide at home afterwards. Come and see why it is our most popular treatment — or explore our full range of advanced facials — I would love to show you what your skin is capable of.
