Gummy Smile

A gummy smile occurs when an excessive amount of the gum shows under the upper lip when you smile.

Gummy Smile
About this condition
It is usually caused by overactive facial muscles around the nose and mouth pulling the lip upwards and exposing the gums. It may also be caused by a dental condition or dental deformity. Many people with this condition are unhappy with the appearance of their smile, finding if affects their self-esteem, and therefore choose to have it corrected.
After careful analysis of your condition we will usually recommend a course of Botox injections to treat a gummy smile that is caused by overactive perioral muscles. These injections relax these muscles, reducing the upward movement of the lip and resulting in less of the gum line showing when you smile and your confidence being fully restored.
